Session 3 The party was a wash of different and contradicting feelings. Azza and Nath looked astonished, Garrick and Coryn were furious and Drathys and Kane were indifferent, except for the fact that they all felt failure. Garrick regained his composure enough to order the bodies carried back to the Hall of Justice. After an informal debriefing a clerk brought an envelope to the already downtrodden party. After an awkward silence the clerk told them that the letter came just they left to defend DeMarque, and left it on a table in the middle of the room. Kane was the only one that moved to open the letter. It read, “Even before you try, I know you failed. Here is another chance. That left the party a little more than a day to rest and maybe catch up on some unfinished business. After some speculation and angry words the party decided to meet back at the Hall of Justice at 4:00 PM the next day, then split up to go to their homes. The next day each party member decided to get reacquainted with the merchants and markets of their old city. Azza spent most of the day in Luptoo Trunk Forest and became reacquainted with Nature for the first time in almost a week. Coryn spent much of his day bartering and preparing for battle while doing his best to forget the death of friend. Kane decided to visit his friend Snipely who he inadvertently helped arrest. He did not like the idea of him being in Jail, but he had to admit he was fed and had a place to sleep. However, hot completely satisfied, Kane questioned Snipely about the gang he was with, and got the general location of a gang member's home. It did not help that there were many houses that matched the description of small abandoned shack in the slum neighborhood, but eventually Kane found the house. Amonst the filth and mess was a number of letters showing correspondence between the small gang and a member of what was called the Thief's Guild. Drathys decided to look into a matter of old debts, not sure what to make of them, he simply went over to his neighbor Huughs' house and demanded what was owed to him. After a short, but awkward conversation Drathys conceded to let the man pay back his debt later. Nath escaped the city to his usual place to think just across the river on the north bank of the east wall. Soon each member had arrived at the Hall of Justice and Garrick came in exactly at 4:00 after finishing his rounds. In all the turmoil of the previous day Garrick had forgot to mention the most peculiar thing about the recent death threat. Mr. Kildo was not a noble. No one had any good explanation for this change in the pattern, and many wondered what the killer would gain from killing a man barely able to provide for himself. Of course, after asking this question, a more important question was posed; what does the killer have to gain from any of these deaths. The party made its way over to the Kildo residence which was in the middle of the Peddler's Market. Being 4:00 in the afternoon many of the merchants had packed up already. However, when they got there, Mr. Kildo was not the one to answer the door, it was a noble named Mr. Helgi Sr. He informed them that he began hiding here a few weeks ago when the murders started, and that Mr. Kildo was living in his home. After spending some time deciding that Mr. Kildo's home was too easy a target they decided to move Mr. Helgi to D'Aellinar tower. Almost immediately after sneaking him out the front door the party came under a barrage of arrows and a hailstorm of caltrops falling from the sky. Civilians ran and fell and screamed as they got hit and stepped on the caltrops. After the party did away with the roof top snipers and Azza literally ripped the wizard to shreds Nath caused a storm to blanket the city so thick you couldn't see more than 10 feet in front of you. As the party moved towards Coryn's home, they teleported Mr. Helgi and a number of the members directly to the tower. As soon as they appeared in the tower, Mr. Helgi slumped over dead with a King Tarot card on his body. |
